Description

A bouquet bursts from a battered tin of NEVR-DULL polish, sunflowers and chrysanthemums leaning into peach carnations, mimosa, and stray daisies. At the base, a quiet pile-up of memory: nesting dolls, a Union Jack-topped Mini, a chess knight, a porcelain deer, an Easter egg. Never Dull is a contemporary still life that takes the visual language of the cluttered mantelpiece and turns it into a love letter to the keep-sakes we never quite throw out.

The piece is a hand-pulled four-layer CMYK screenprint, finished with diamond dust that catches the light as you move past it. That extra layer is doing real work, lifting the print off the page and giving the whole composition a low, glittering pulse. The composition borrows from Dutch flower painting, but the swap of vase for vintage polish tin is where Oli Fowler shows his hand. There's a sly humour, and a real tenderness too: the title doubles as a quiet manifesto, the small objects feel like inheritances, and the duck-egg background lends the work the powdery softness of a half-remembered Sunday afternoon.
