About

Summer Alone captures the relaxed confidence of a woman enjoying a holiday entirely on her own terms, with sunglasses beside a swimming pool setting the scene. Miche Watkins imagines a moment of unhurried pleasure, where a refreshing dip might be followed by a fabulous cocktail at the bar. The work celebrates the freedom to enjoy a summer escape without needing company to make it complete.

The painting reflects Watkins’ ongoing exploration of female independence and the restorative potential of solitude. Its neutral colours distinguish it from more overtly vibrant works, while the simple holiday imagery evokes relaxation, warmth and personal freedom. The sunglasses become a playful symbol of self-assurance, suggesting a woman who is comfortable in her own company and at ease with her choices.

Summer Alone invites viewers to reconsider the idea that memorable experiences must be shared to be meaningful. It celebrates the quiet luxury of having time to oneself, free from expectations and the need to please anyone else. For collectors drawn to contemporary art that combines an appealing lifestyle subject with a message of independence, this painting offers an inviting expression of self-possession and summer ease.
