About
This piece examines the psychological boundary between contemporary human society and the natural world. The work’s narrative elements are informed by one of the artist’s earliest memories as the son of an exotic animal keeper; of an escaped tree frog observing his family at the dinner table. Daniels vividly remembers the sense of discomfort felt at the ominous proximity of the frog when it went beyond the confines of its tank. He likens the feeling to that felt by the author in Seamus Heaney’s poem ‘Death of a Naturalist’, where the poet describes his sense of repulsion at witnessing a swarm of frogs.
