Bau is the most recent resin artwork within Forsythe’s practice, created on a wooden base and distinguished by delicate lines of gold leaf along its edges. The combination of resin, wood and gold leaf brings together three distinct material qualities, creating a sleek and refined contemporary composition. Its restrained approach marks a considered evolution from the more overt vibrancy associated with some of Forsythe’s earlier resin works.

The Bau Series was developed during the first year of Forsythe’s PhD research as an opportunity to revisit techniques and processes from earlier stages of her practice. Returning to wood and gold leaf allowed her to reconnect with approaches used when resin was first introduced into her work while simultaneously exploring new directions. The series therefore carries a sense of reflection and renewal, connecting past experimentation with the artist’s developing contemporary practice.
