About

Absolute Happiness captures the simple anticipation of stepping into a swimming pool during a holiday spent alone. Through this familiar moment, Miche Watkins explores the pleasure of having no one to please and no demands to meet. The scene evokes sunshine, rest and the liberating feeling of having time entirely to oneself.

The painting reflects the central ideas of Watkins’ exploration of female independence, in which solitude becomes an opportunity for renewal rather than a source of loneliness. The pool steps mark a transition into a moment of personal freedom, where the everyday pressures of life can be left behind. Her pared-back approach allows this familiar setting to communicate a feeling that many viewers will recognise: the happiness of finally being able to pause.

Absolute Happiness celebrates the emotional value of rest and the freedom to enjoy one's own company without apology. Its subject offers a gentle reminder that fulfilment can be found in ordinary experiences when they are enjoyed without interruption or expectation. For collectors who connect with art that celebrates self-care and independence, this work expresses the quiet but profound happiness of making space for oneself.
