Why your office walls matter more than you think

Why your office walls matter more than you think

We recently spoke to Talking.Business about something that’s easily overlooked when creating a great place to work - what goes on the walls.

Their article, Think twice before leaving your office walls blank,” explores the role art can play in the workplace, and why the benefits can go far beyond simply making an office look better.

Research from the University of Exeter found that employees working in offices enriched with art and plants were 17% more productive than those in sparse spaces. When employees were involved in shaping their environment, that increase reached as much as 32%.

There are other benefits too. Original art can bring personality to a workplace, encourage conversation and creativity, and help create an environment that feels considered rather than simply functional.

As KELLART founder Brad Kellard told Talking.Business:

“Businesses invest a huge amount in their people and their workplaces, but what goes on the walls is often an afterthought.

“A piece of art can completely change how a space feels, and when employees are involved in choosing the work, it becomes part of creating their own environment.”

It’s part of the thinking behind KELLART’s art rental service, which allows businesses to bring original contemporary art into their workplace without the commitment of purchasing an entire collection.

If you run a business, manage a workspace or are simply looking at those blank office walls and wondering what could be there instead, it’s worth a read.
