Nancy Whitehead

Bio

Nancy is a London based artist, who paints in the style of photorealism, exclusively in oil paint on MDF canvases. She graduated from Cambridge School of Art in 2011 and has continued to build on her passion in this field. Since graduating she has continued to develop her practice, exploring the relationship between observation, perception, and the constructed image.

Producing striking pieces featuring iconic and recognisable brands, she showcases the relationship of colour, light, reflection and distortions through art.

Statement

My paintings are not intended as simple reproductions of photographic source material. Instead, I use the language of photorealism to investigate the qualities that exist beyond the photograph — creating a heightened sense of depth, presence, and visual experience that cannot be fully captured by a camera.

I am drawn to the visual impact of familiar objects and iconic brands, using their recognisable forms as a foundation to explore colour, light, reflection, and distortion. Through the meticulous layering of oil paint, I aim to transform everyday imagery into something more immersive, inviting the viewer to reconsider the relationship between reality and representation.
